If Gina had actually given the couple her blessing, it was only a formality, as her heart certainly felt differently about the arrangement. According to Gina’s train of thought, Rick had failed to make a respectable woman out of his partner, and it was now up to the older woman to mold her into an appropriate wife. It was clear that all of Tracy’s personal traits were lacking, and would need to be hammered into shape.

Following Gina’s meltdown, the couple spoke in private about how to deal with her. She would be staying with them for some time, and things were already off to a terrible start. Rick then had a brainwave: moving his mother far away from them into a distant guest room. Rather than continuing to beat their heads against the brick wall, why not remove it? Despite the couple’s best efforts to be diplomatic with Gina, it was clear that she needed to be annexed.
