Bison Struck By Lightning

In 2013, a lightning bolt saved the life of this bison, who was called Sparky, from impending death. Throughout millennia, he has served as a symbol of the rage of his people. During his years as a prairie wandering wildebeest at Iowa’s Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, he had a long and happy life. A few months before to the attack on him, Sparky had fathered three calves.

Angler Fish Washed Ashore

Anglerfish are incredibly unusual to see outside of the deep ocean, but this one was discovered at California’s Crystal Cove State Park. Anglerfish may be found in depths of up to 3,000 feet in the sea. The esca is a modified dorsal fin that protrudes from the head. The anglerfish’s bioluminescence attracts food, which they subsequently impale with its sharp teeth. Even predators have been found to be drawn to the esca, turning the hunter into the prey.
