In some ways, ancient megalodons are difficult to comprehend because of their enormous size during the time they lived. They seem to be the same as they do in this photograph. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the life span of a humpback whale is expected to be between 80 and 90 years. Their size and weight increase to 60 feet in length and 80,000 pounds in weight when 3000 pounds of food is devoured every day, at which time they go extinct.
