Arizona Boneyard
The 309th Aerospace Maintenance And Regeneration Group ( 309rg AMARG), otherwise known as the Arizona Boneyard is the biggest facility of its kind in the entire world. Tucson is well known for its spectacular views and dramatic natural beauty and the huge Sonoran desert but it’s also home to this great airplane “ graveyard”, but this isn’t really the final resting place for the aircraft. It’s actually a facility that houses retired aircraft that still have usable parts for maintenance or replacements on active planes. ( king of like a scrap yard for cars, if you ask me !). Some of the airplanes come here as a halfway house before their final destination and many of them do have their parts taken out to be reused or sold off or repair other aircraft.
