Picture yourself going through the forest on tour and taking the best that nature has to offer. As you stroll along, you come across a plane lying around in the dense regions of the forest. Yes, we did mean an actual plane. For sure, your first response would be that a plane had crashed or it’s a junkyard for old aircraft. Well, for those who have toured the inner forest regions of Hillsboro, Oregon, you may have come across a “plane” that is really the house of Bruce Campbell. You may have read of a few popular or not so popular people who have done some extraordinary work-related to having their dream home. Some have converted yachts or their old car into a home, while others have no other alternatives but to live in their cars or on their boats. For others, it is more like a passion for turning what they love into a luxurious space. Bruce Campbell has seized the opportunity to make a mode of transport into a home.
Some people live in some pretty cool environments and, in most cases, have used the resources they have to create their living space. Many people have chosen to build their home around a tree or in the tree in some cases, while others used other resources like bricks, stones, or even mud. Well, we do have a few made of ice too! But, how often do we see one turning an air transport into a home…an intriguing one for that matter?
Of course, it is evident that the work put into making this home was more than easy and came with many challenges. From the laws surrounding gathering these objects to turning and shaping the inner linings into a bedroom or even lounge, the workers had to use a lot of creative thinking and skills. Then to top off all the weirdness – a Boeing 727 was lifted from an airport and dropped off in the forest. Bruce Campbell, who once worked as an electrical engineer, has always had a passion for airplanes. He found passion in more than simply flying them but turning them into historic pieces of art. With his skills and love for aircraft, Campbell started collecting scraps and other parts of old airplanes destined for the junkyard. He eventually repurposed them and now have created more than art. Let’s now take a tour of the reality Campbell’s mind has created…..
Creative Thinking
Campbell has probably resigned from his electrical engineering career, being now at 64 years old, but that does not mean his mind, too, has retired. He is still on the mission to find uses for rare daily objects and turn them into amazing art pieces. The whole process started when Campbell was in his twenties. At the cost of $23,000, Campbell purchased a 10-acre plot of land in the forest areas of Hillsboro, Oregon. This means his plan was already thought out from early.
